To be completely honest, upon approaching the polar cave, I was not expecting much. The exterior is bright pink with lots of decorations that continue to the inside. It is visually wild and I was not confident that they could back up the sight with a great scoop. However, I was happily proved wrong.
Right on 28 in Mashpee, this great little shop is filled with polar bear posters, figurines and stuffed animals, all living up to its name. With games on all the indoor tables and ample seating outside, this is a great place for a family to spend some time on a summer’s eve. Music being played outside (even on the cool April day we were there) and they had an outdoor serving window to complete the summer feel.
The ice cream was great. I had Almond Joy, one of the top five flavors and it was delicious. Coconut ice cream with almonds and chocolate chips that was mixed perfectly. Shane had Peanut Butter Cup (chocolate ice cream with real peanut butter swirls). They appeared to have about 20 flavors of the hard stuff and tons of toppings to make their many choices of specialty sundaes, including “Mashpee Mudd”. This family run business has great, personable and fast service. My only qualm is that they serve their desserts in Styrofoam bowls, where most other shoppes serve in paper. In my book this is a big infraction. Polar Cave, if you read this, please switch to a more earth-friendly product to serve your goods in.
Check out the Polar Cave on a hot summer evening when passing through!
