The Ice Cream Smuggler

Ice Cream Smuggler Dennis Outside With Lawn

Nothing like an ice cream cone to kick off the summer season! This past weekend Shane and I had a guest travel to Dennis with us to sample the frozen delights of The Ice Cream Smuggler’s Ice Cream. Contributing Editor, Kate, got to experience the hard work and rigorous discussion that goes into finding the best ice cream on Cape Cod.

I’ve heard good things about Smuggler’s and have notices its cute store front where passing through Dennis on a number of occasions. Housed in a quaint Cape house on a beautiful lawn and a great shade tree, it appears small from the outside, but has ample space on the inside to side to sit and enjoy your scoops. Bright and clean with an ice cream cone boarder and photos hanging up, Smuggler’s proudly displays its flavors in a glass counter. I really like it when shops do this, although sometimes it makes the decisions harder! Smuggler’s also has seating outside to enjoy all summer and ample parking in the back.

The people behind the counter were very friendly and even shared some ice cream humor. Shane chose peanut butter chocolate, Kate picked mocha chip, and I got grasshopper. All were very tasty! Shane’s had thick swirls of real peanut butter that had a strong flavor and great texture. Kate enjoyed the ice cream, but said the chips in her mocha chips could have been a better quality chocolate as they did not melt in her mouth as she had hoped (they crumbled instead). My grasshopper (mint ice cream with oreos mixed in) was great! The mint flavor was cool, refreshing, and bursting with flavor. The oreos were great and plentiful. I got a chocolate dipped sugar cone, which was the best choice I had made all day.

We ate our scoops outside, moving the white plastic furniture into the shade of the big tree that was in the front yard. We were able to watch a steady stream of people coming and going in their cars licking their cones as they drove away. Sitting under the shade of the tree, eating ice cream with my favorite people, it was the perfect summer afternoon.

Thanks, Kate, for your assistance and input in our quest for the best ice cream.
