Lewis Brothers Homemade Ice Cream

Lewis Brothers Homemade Ice Cream

Lewis Brothers store front

Located in Provincetown, Lewis Brothers Homemade Ice Cream is located in a lovely little part of town right by the water.  That is about all that is nice about Lewis Brothers.

Tess and I entered the store and saw a nice looking place, Shiny counters and signs.  We were greeted by servers who were unenthusiastic, even terse.  Tess got the mudslide and I got Oreo (WHICH CONTAINS OREO COOKIES NOT HYDROX COOKIES).

An ice cream place, especially one that makes the cream homemade should have a tasty scoop, and that is not what we found.  The ice cream was “freezery” and a bit frost burned.  The Oreo cookies tasted bad, and the ice cream was really frozen hard making it very hard to spoon into your mouth.

Tess said that her first bite was good, but that after that an annoying aftertaste ruined all consecutive bites.  She did note that the alcohol in the ice cream made it a bit more smooth and she had fewer problems getting it into her mouth.  She also noted that her ice cream was almost devoid of chocolate chips, and that they were made of that cheap waxy chocolate.  More chips, of higher quality would have made it better.

And the size!  These cups were microscopic.  The small literally holds about one scoop, this would be fine if the ice cream was so rich that eating more would make you sick, but this cream was not that rich.  For the price (a whopping $3.00!) you should get a lot more ice cream than that.

I am sad to say that Lewis Brothers Homemade Ice Cream was disappointing to Tess and me. I preferred the ice cream I had at Twist’d Sister much more.

Edit:  Since posting our review of Lewis Brothers Homemade Ice cream, Tess and I have been contacted not once but three times by someone claiming to be David Lewis (we have no way to know for sure) the owner of Lewis Brothers.  The first email he sent us was full of profanity and claimed that Tess and I both had our heads in a place they should not be.

After posting his email as a comment on the review, we were contacted again asking us to take it down and we received an apology.  We gladly removed his rather rude comment from our site, as we are not trying to be jerks.  He then contacted us claming that unless we change our review to reflect the fact that his Oreo ice cream contained Oreos and not Hydrox cookies (so posted because someone at the store had told us they were hydrox) that he would sue us for Libel and legal fees (the post has been changed as neither Tess nor myself want to get into any legal action over a silly ice cream website).

Our opinions are just that, opinions.  If you disagree with any of our reviews feel free to leave your own in the comment section, or use the handy dandy reader rating system to let your voice be heard.

If you are an owner of a shop and feel we have posted an error, feel free to use the contact us page to let us know.  Please do not write us nasty emails full of swear words and legal threats, a simple polite request to change an error will suffice.  Thank you for reading our website and enjoy your ice cream.

Seriously? They have the best ice cream in P Town if not the cape! Their workers are knowlegable always seem so friendly and recognize me (I think) as I go there several times a year and they are always the same ones. They have better flavors then even B and J and keep making more. I love it!

I MUST AGREE WITH THE FIRST REVIEW,
THE EMPLOYEES SEEM SO UNINTERESTED IN THEIR WORK AND THE CUSTOMERS, NOBODY SMILED, NOT EVEN THE GUY TAKING THE MONEY AT THE REGISTER.
THEY HAD SOME INTERESTING FLAVORS , BUT I STUCK WITH MY USUAL FAVORITE ICE CREAM, MINT CHIP. IT WASN’T VERY GOOD. I THREW IT OUT WHEN I SAW THE OTHER ICE CREAM SHOP ABOUT A HALF BLOCK AWAY. I REALLY ENJOYED THE MINT CHIP ICE CREAM (REALLY CREAMY)AND THE FRIENDLY SERVICE I GOT AT TWISTED SISTERS ICE CREAM SHOP.

I love Lewis Brothers Icecream! Their sundaes are the best in town and they have flavors you can’t find anywhere else. They are the only shop on Commercial Street that makes their own icecream right there in the shop with only the best ingredients. The owners and their employees work so hard- and always with a smile on their faces! My favorite frappe is the coffee with chocolate sauce and my favorite icecream is either the mint chip or one of their specialty flavors, chocolate peppermint patty. My mother loves the peppermint stick and the pistachio. Actually, there isn’t a flavor we don’t like! Please disregard the review on this site because their taste buds are clearly twisted!!!

There are lots of nice things about Lewis Brothers. Our experience with their ice cream has been nothing but exceptional. Not only do they make their own ice cream with quality, brand name ingredients, but also make their own fabulously fresh whipped cream and rich hot fudge sauce on site. The owners and staff are always open to suggestions to improve their products and are innovative with their new flavors. Patrons comments are always warmly welcomed and incorporated into the manufacturing process. Although they are always VERY busy, the atmosphere should not be misconstrued as unenthusiastic or anything less than a hard working group of people focused on making great ice cream and serving customers in a timely and efficient manner. We enjoy their ice cream so much in fact that we receive bi-weekly shipments to our home in Western MA. The owner was hesitant at first to this idea for fear of compromising the integrity of the ice cream through shipment.

We were quite surprised by some of the comments made on this website ~ it leads to questions of the purpose of the Challenge, which we thought was to highlight positive qualities within each business. Our reply is intended to give honest and accurate feedback so when on Cape Cod you can experience the highest quality homemade ice cream. We will contiue to enjoy Lewis Brothers Mississippi Mud, Black Raspberry, Ginger, Chocolate Peppermint Patty, Cake Batter, Pistachio, Coffee Heath, Strawberry, Chocolate Bliss…….

I completely agree with the Cape Cod Challenge on Lewis Brothers. The servings were incredibly small, and the quality of the ice cream was below average. Granted, the ice cream wasn’t abysmal, but it was by no means of home made quality. I’d say the ice cream was on par with something you might have eaten out of a icey chain-brand quart.

Hmm . . . I find this hard to believe. I have always had great experiences at the Lewis Brothers Ice Cream shop and have been going there for the past two years. I think their ice cream is AWESOME and I love the flavor choices available. Go LEWIS Brothers!!

  7. Heidi says:

Been there. Never again. If you enjoy a quality ice cream, this isnt the place. Poor service, poor quality, poor experience. I’ve had better Ice cream from the 7 Eleven…sorry.

  8. Elizabeth says:

I’m sorry I didn’t find your website until I returned from Cape Cod! But I had wonderful ice cream on the Cape. I loved the White Russian ice cream at Lewis Brothers. Yes, the service was poor, but who cares when the ice cream is good?!
