I have been excited about visiting this place for months because I think the name is so great. The Ice Cream Sandwich in Sandwich, what could be better. Set on a green, grassy hill in a beautiful wooden house with a large porch and shaded by the surrounding trees, what could be better on hot summer’s day? I think the ice cream could actually be a little better.
The scoopers were great, we showed up at 9pm on the dot (they close at 9pm) and they were so nice and still served us. (Sorry to staff for doing that to you!) They were also very friendly and shared what flavors they would suggest. I chose Cape Cod Chunk and Shane got Moose Tracks. The cups looked decent sized when handed to us. We sat down to enjoy our desserts and they kept the porch lights on for us (we left in a minute right after we realized they were keeping the lights on for us, again, very nice of them!). I took a bite, enjoying the texture, and suddenly realized that there was no flavor!
Cape Cod Chunk is chocolate ice cream with dark chocolate chunks and white chocolate chips. I thought the chocolate ice cream was flavorless! No hint of coco or anything really. The chocolate chunks would not melt in my mouth and were rather chalky textured when bitten. The white chocolate was only mildly better. Shane’s Moose Tracks was at least tolerable and the peanut butter cups were tasty. However, the rest of the Tracks (the vanilla ice cream and chocolate swirls) were again lacking any pop and are nothing to write home about.
I did enjoy their carved bear eating a cone though! And the grounds were very enjoyable. In fact, the Ice Cream Sandwich scored high in everything BUT the ice cream. The ice cream itself is expensive at $3.15 plus tax for only an average amount and what tasted like cheap ingedients. I thought the price was too much for the taste. As a note though, i know their parking lot is packed when I drive by, so maybe others’ taste buds appreciate it more than I do.
