Kandy Korner

Kandy Korner

Kandy Korner Ice Cream Front Of Store

Although the smell upon entering is overwhelming, the ice cream is underwhelming. Kandy corner is a candy emporium found on Main St, Hyannis. Although it’s a sweet tooth’s paradise with everything from cotton candy to fudge, ice cream is not its strong suit.

Kandy Korner Inside

The store is overwhelming from sight to smell. The almost sickly smell of candy greets you at the door where you find a big stuffed bear to meet you. Inside are strings of lights, outlandish hats, and rows upon rows of candy in every color and size.

The ice cream counter is much the same. There are LOTS of flavors to choose from, including low fat, sugar free, and GELATO (I have not seen that anywhere else). All of them look very delicious with lots of swirls and mix-ins. Shane chose snicker ice cream (chocolate ice cream with nuts and carmel) at the suggestion of the guy behind the counter (male scoopers, one of the few we’ve seen so far!!) There were two boys behind the counter scooping. The first was good, and the second was rather unfriendly (I guess that’s the nature of teenage boys). I chose chocolate kahlua truffle (kahlua ice cream with chocolate truffles and chocolate swirls) on my own.

The servings were vastly different in size. They price the ice cream by weight which I did not like. You never know how much you are going to end up paying and there is no standardization of size. They need to change that pricing system. Shane’s ice cream was alright, not that special and the peanuts were stale. My ice cream was pretty good, I enjoyed it. The truffles were great. The ice cream was just average and both were a little freezer burned. I did enjoy sitting on the front steps watching people stroll by. I even hear this used to be “THE” thing to do, sit on the steps of Kandy Korner.

Kandy Korner Ice Cream

So, to sum it up, Kandy Korner is a unique place and the ideal place to fulfill your cravings, but its focus is definitely not on this average scoop of ice cream. If you are in the mood for ice cream, I would keep walking down the street, I saw several other shops, and although we have not tried them yet, chances are they are better.
