Katie’s Homemade Ice Cream
Katie’s was a great find! You can find it in a pink house on Main Street, Hyannis with a large deck filled with picnic tables with sun umbrellas. The staff was amazingly friendly, I would even say one of the friendliest places we have ever been. They had a wide selection of flavors, all made on premises, with lots of beachy, cape specific flavors.
I really liked this place. You walk into a bright, clean shop with lots of options listed and in the glass case for you to drool at. The flavor of the week this week was “Sandy Neck” which I thought was great. Everyone working there was great, with huge smiles and lots of advice on what to get.
I chose Cape Cod Sand which is a secret flavor and the only one they won’t tell you the ingredients for. It is several of the staff’s favorites and I must say it was delicious. I have my suspicions as to what is in it, but I will keep it a secret too! I guess 2 people were able to figure it out last year. Give it a try and see if you can unmask the mystery. I will say that it was flavored ice cream with chocolaty chunks.
Shane chose Brownie Batter which is chocolate ice cream with brownie chunks and chocolate mint chips. Both were amazingly creamy and rich. The stuff in the ice cream was plentiful and delicious. They definitely use quality ingredients and are not stingy at all. Although the size was average compared to other shops, it was the perfect amount. If they gave you any more, I don’t think I would have been able to finish it because it is so rich.
I had a great time sitting on the deck in the shade (it was a hot day and the shade was such a relief!) watching people walk up and down Main St. The ice cream was delicious, some of the best I’ve had in awhile. The flavors and names were creative and clever and the mystery ingredients of Sand add a great element of fun that leave me wanting to come back for more. The staff is great and obviously take a lot of pride in their business.

Katie’s Ice Cream - Cape Cod Mud is the best flavor ever!!!
Cape Cod Sand is a secret flavor, trying it for the first time I was pleasantly surprised. As a regular customer at Katies Ice Cream, I love seeing all the new flavors and sundaes they come up with. The ice cream is creamy, and rich. The best on Cape Cod.
Katie’s Ice Cream is The best! It is the only place I will take my family!
Katies Ice Cream is the best !!! Every flavor imaginable and all homemade. We love it !!!
Katies ice cream is absolutely unreal .. the best ive ever had anywhere New England
The Rum Raisin is Delicious! It can’t be beat!
The sundea of the week, MUDPIE, was absolutely fanominal! It was created byone of the employees there. Katie’s Also had a flavor of the week with some cape cod themed name that was very good. It had Chocolate and Pecans. YUM! I would give this store my vote!
The Black Raspberry was the BEST I have ever tasted.
I the flavor is pure and unmistakenly raspberry.
I have never bragged about icecream before but I have been telling my friends about it for 2 weeks now.
I visited Katie’s yesterday for the first time, with high expectations. Unfortunately, I ended up being somewhat disappointed. While the ice cream was very creamy, the Cape Cod Mud I ordered had no Oreos and only one almond to its name. Also, the Cookie Dough had literally ONE CHUNK of dough in the entire scoop, and the vanilla had no flavor at all.
Justine-
The ideas behind ice cream is that there is the ice cream and then the few surprising bits if extra that are found between the cream. It is disappointing that your cookie dough had one chunk of cookie and your Cape Cod was lacking but being a customer there for over 5 years your comment of the vanilla was absurd! It is extactly what homemade ice cream should taste like. I love the coconut almond chip which has a light real coconut taste that sneakes up on you.
Kristin-
I’m thinking that maybe I just got a bad batch (seeing as how Katie’s makes there own, I figure that there ice cream differs from mass-produced ice cream in that every batch isn’t identical, and thus maybe I just stopped by on an off day.) After reading all the rave reviews, I’ve decided to give them another chance, but in regards to what’s found between the cream, Shane and Tess had described “the stuff in the ice cream [as being] plentiful and delicious,” so I’m just a little surprised that my ice cream was so lacking in…stuff. Still, I’ll definitely give Katie’s another chance.
Ugh, I said “there” twice when I meant “their”.
I just visited Katie’s on a vacation with my Husband and It is some of the best Ice cream We have ever had! I had one scoop of Black Rasberry, which was much better than I expected with a burst of flavor in every bite! My husband got a Cape Codder sundae, You can only get those on cape cod, you know. He had one scoop of Cape Cod Sand and one of the “Mud” He said it tasted “much better than the mudpies (he) made as a kid” It was served in a cute little Boat with cookie Oars! It was a quaint little store in the heart of the cape! we hope to visit again soon!
[...] McGee’s ice cream was good. Bliss makes a good scoop. Its creamy, has low ice content, and overall is pretty rich. The problem is that McGee’s is right across the street from Katie’s Homemade Ice Cream. If this is a David and Goliath fight, McGee’s is Goliath because they are gonna get knocked the !@#* out. [...]
