Schoolhouse Ice Cream And Yogurt

I love Schoolhouse (NOT to be confused with “The Old Schoolhouse” in Chatham which just sells Richardson’s). This great spot in Harwich Port is a place everyone should visit.

Schoolhouse is in this great little white house with an amazing garden with pick nick tables, trees covered in unique bird houses, a large porch with benches, and an outdoor counter to order at. And that’s just the exterior. Inside there is ample seating, pictures all over of the past staff, historic Harwich, and other colorful decorations.

Now to the ice cream. The list of flavors and the case are mouth watering. They have a wide variety of ice cream and yogurt to choose from, including “adult flavors” that have a small alcohol content in them, although you don’t get carded if you order them! I chose one such flavor: Irish Whiskey Coffee. Shane chose Ginger. The Irish coffee was delicious; creamy and flavorful with just a hint of the whiskey. The ginger ice cream was ginger flavored cream with BIG cubes of candied ginger. Shane said it was actually too much ginger! The cubes were so many and the flavor so strong that they overwhelmed the ice cream.

Although we did not get toppings, Schoolhouse had the most extensive list of choices I have ever seen, including: mocha carmel crunches and “Cotton Candy Crunch.” The service was only average, however, I heard the young lady talking to her mom (I think!) and she was having a rough day, so I will not hold it against them. She was great about letting us sample things and smiled at our silly jokes and small talk.

To sum up this review, get over to Schoolhouse ASAP. The ice cream is delicious and it was the best atmosphere! It was raining lightly when we went and we still sat outside under the pick nick table umbrella because the gardens were so beautiful. Everyone will enjoy the lessons in ice cream taught at Schoolhouse.
