Sometimes you walk into a place and all you can think is “wow!” It seems that Highland Creamery was crafted to produce just such a reaction. The place is wild, as you approach you see a giant smiling dolphin wearing pearls, crazy umbrella things, and a bubble cannon shooting bubbles into the air above the door.

We once again had a couple backup testers with us, one secret tester who we will talk more about later, and Tess’s friend Lindsay. Before we ordered we stood around agog at the plethora of stuff located inside the store. The store is a site to behold, its as if you rolled up a candy store, an ice cream shop, a toys store, and a surf shop and shook the resulting wad violently until it exploded. They even have a built in fish tank on one of the benches, with real fish!

Highland has a very good selection of flavors, with interesting names like white trash. The server was great and answered all of our questions. Tess and Lindsay ended up getting white trash (white chocolate ice cream, with peaches and a bit of southern comfort now you see the name is perfect), I got deep chocolate, and our secret tester got mint chocolate chip. The strange thing is that Highland actually colors the mint chocolate chip a vibrant blue/green. It made it look strange but it still tasted good.

All of the ice cream was good, the ladies liked the white trash and said it was creamy and delicious. I found the deep chocolate really good, but it could have been a little more rich with a name like that. It was however creamy and tasty.

Highland has many topping options, they stand out as the one place we have been that has a really vast topping selection. You can even get gummy octopus, and gummy sea shell topping (if that’s your thing). They do use Styrofoam cups, which is bad, but the serving size was average. They also offer shaved ice, and soft serve.
If you are traveling along 6 going to Provincetown or perhaps coming down to Orleans or Eastham you need to stop at Highland Creamery. Its an experience. Check out the disco ball, the my little ponies, the gum ball machines, take a picture with the giant dolphin, and enjoy a really nice scoop.

The picture with the cones in it is disgusting. PAINT THE TABLE. They must have named the flavor “White Trash” because of the decor of the place, not the ingredients.

  2. Jay Evert says:

I haven’t been there in a few years, so I can’t comment on the ice cream itself. I can say, though, that I prefer my ice cream display it’s normal color without artificial colorings. I do give them a lot of credit for making their own products – I didn’t know that they did that.

However, the interior design of the place is a lot of fun! I suggest that Ms Evans stop by and take a look before she makes negative comments based on such teeny-tiny photos. She’s likely to enjoy the look of Highland Creamery as much as you tasters did.

Just so everyone knows if you click on the thumbnail pictures you get a full sized version.

I’ve been a fan of the Highland Creamery for years. I should mention that recently the outdoor tables have been repainted and look fabulous. And, Mr. Evert, coloring the mint chocolate chip green is just as artificial as coloring it blue.

Being a local I try to support the local shops. Early in the season my daughters (2) went to the Highland Creamey for three small sundays. The sundays were small but the price was extreme. I’m use to paying high prices at resturaunts but for ice cream? Three small sundays and a tip cost almost $20.00. We havnt been back since. I wont visit the owners other resturant/ice cream establishments either. If you want to survive in Truro you need to treat the locals better and give them a fair price. Remember we support you in the buffer seasons.

  6. Highland Creamery Owner says:

I would like to thank all of the people who have patronized my store over the years. I do apologize for the unpainted benches, That is usually done in June, but this year was rainy all of the time.

As to the message from Jon, I can only offer you this explanation about all of your negative comments.

I use only the finest ingredients and fresh fruit and nuts. The Vanilla extract which I use in all of the Ice Cream flavors for added richness flucuates in price and has been up to $475 a gallon. I could have used a lesser quality formula, but I chose to stay loyal to my customers and product. My prices are comparable to Ben And Jerry’s, which is shipped in NOT made on site as mine is, and your receive a much bigger portion at The Highland Creamery.

The price you quoted me for sundaes either means you left a 5 dollar tip or that you allowed your kids to order additional toppings, which are chargable.

Lastly, if you want lower prices, campaign against the Landlords who raise the rent with out consideration. This particular Landlord tried to break my lease and raise the rent 4 times over. I had to spend a fortune in court costs. to maintain the business..

Needless to say I would like to relocate.

Also, it is important to note that The Ice Cream store has no affiliation to the Yearround Pizza place next door , and I am limited by my lease to the sale of Ice Cream , so as much as I would like to cater to a yearround clientel, they haven’t shown me that they can support the business, and there is no buffer business there which is profitable,

I keep the place open to give the kids a job. I mean no offense by this, but the numbers show that it is the families who buy Ice Cream from July through August who support this business be them local or not and I am grateful to everyone.

As an aside, as a yearround resident, I frequent the local businesses which are open and am upset that I have to Spend $100.00 for a casual dinner and drinks in February, but I do it and do not complain, understanding the way business has to be done around here. It’s sad and frustrating, but it’s not going to change.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
