Ice Cream Cafe
After a brief hiatus from the Cape and ice cream, it’s nice to be back at work, as sticky and calorie-filled as it may be. Today’s adventures brought us to the Lower Cape and the Ice Cream Cafe, where the staff had us in stitches.
As I will be moving off Cape soon (although I will be back for frequent visits since the challenge is not over yet) I am trying to soak up enough of it as I can right now. My list of “Cape Coddy” things to do before heading off is getting longer instead of shorter I think, although today I did get to check off this shop which was on the list with several other ice cream shops. The Ice Cream Cafe of Orleans is nestled in the corner of a white house serves up a great scoop, but the staff is really what makes it a stand out to me.
Upon entering the small, clean, colorful shop, Shane and I were greeted by three very nice staff all huge smiles on their faces. They seemed to really love their job and were funny as heck. They all raved about the coconut ice cream (which I must say IS great) and the “flavor machine” which mixes in fruit and candy into the soft serve. Shane commented on a “scary” looking lady statue on a shelf above and the guy behind the counter agreed whole-heartedly saying that he “keeps taking down the cookie jar, but my dad keeps putting it back up!”
So I chose the coconut and Shane got the triple fudge brownie. The coconut was superb, with TONS of shredded coconut in it. The brownie was at maximum chocolaty-ness, with chunks of soft, delicious brownie which in turn had fudge cooked into it. With a little more than the average small, we had plenty of tasty goodness to take outside and eat in the shade on the wrap around deck. There we admired their pretty flowers, ice cream shaped signs, and ice-cream-cone-shaped-crazy-lady bird house.
There was plenty of seating and plenty of parking to be had. In addition to the homemade ice cream, there are a slew of soft serve options, fresh smoothies, “refreshing drinks”, slushies, sundaes, and coffee bar to try. There is also candy on sale if the cold stuff isn’t for you. The options are endless. Homemade, delicous, great service therefore meeting all the criteria of a 5-coner in my book blog. So if you’re in on Cape, stop by the Ice Cream Cafe where both the ice cream and the staff are superb.
