Pies á La Mode

Pies á La Mode

After a long winter of waiting for ice cream season on the Cape to start up Tess and I finally got to get back to doing what we do best, eating ice cream. We started this season off with a visit to a place that we have never been.

Pies is tucked away in a shopping center with a White Hen Pantry a Chinese food place and a bank. If you didn’t know it was there you might miss it. But brave ice cream adventures miss it you should not! Pies a la mode packs a surprising punch. With their homemade creams and gelatos backed up with an assortment of bake goods Pies brings it on the tasty foods front.

Tess got the banana and I got the chocolate. Nothing fancy about the names, but the ice cream itself is very interesting. I can’t be sure but I think the flavors at Pies were invented something like this.

person 1: “hey this brownie batter is delicious.”

person 2: “yea too bad we have so much left over, not enough for a pan”

(looking at each other): “brilliant!”

The banana flavor had rich creamy chunks of banana, and the chocolate had big chunks of brownie and chips of dark chocolate. They seem to have a variety of bake goods inspired flavors. Suffice to say we will be going back to try them all.

Tess really likes the place. I found the interior sparse, but nice. It reminded me of an art gallery where all the pieces were edible. The price was a bit high, and it came in a plastic cup (would rather have bio-degradable paper), but the taste was great. The service was great with the woman behind the counter more than willing to answer all of our questions and give us lots of free samples. Ben and Bills (just down the street) had better watch out, there is a new player in town that is slinging a good cup of cream.

Next time you visit Falmouth, make sure you make Pies á la mode part of your journey, you wont be sorry.
