Tasty Take Out aka Stone and Cone aka Maki’s
We would never have found this place without the help of our readers! Thanks!! I am always asking people where they go for ice cream and I have heard of both “Stone and Cone” and “Maki’s” but were not able to find either despite numerous google searches with a mulititude of word combinations. Luckily, we were given directions through our “Contact Us” section!
So Tasty Take Out is a cute little outdoor ice cream counter on 6A in West Barnstable. Its located right next door to a head stone engraver, named Maki’s Monument Co., and has a cemetary across the street from it. Hence the nicknames.
Tasty has a huge parking lot with a little ice cream counter and pick nick tables shaded by big, beautiful trees. When we arrived at early evening, there was a good number of people coming and going, enjoying their scoops.
The ice cream is made by Buck’s, a new one for us. It was alright, tasting kind of like Turkey Hill. Served in Styrofoam cups (unfortunately) I chose Birthday Cake (I am on a quest for a friend to find good cake batter ice cream) and Shane chose Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. The cake batter was good with colorful pieces of cake and what must be frosting. In fact, Shane said it tasted like a whole tub of frosting was in it. Shane’s cookie dough had chocolate chips in the cookie dough and in the ice cream. He thought his ice cream was kind of milky and the flavor did not “pop.” Mine was not icy at all, however, Shane found a HUGE ice chunk in his.
Tasty had hard ice cream, soft serve, and yogurt options. They also have slushies and their special for the summer is an “Avalanche” which is soft serve and slushie layered together. In short, the ice cream was good but a lot like a brand you can purchase at a grocery store. However, I am excited to have solved the Stone and Cone mystery.
