Buffy’s Homemade Ice Cream

At the prompting of several commenter’s (thanks!) we set forth to travel to Chatham once again.  This time we would sample the fine frozen delights of Buffy’s.  It seem that you just can’t find an ugly ice cream shop in Chatham.  Buffy’s is super cute.

Looking like an old time Dutch home, Buffy’s is located on main street just down the road from Daisy’s.  The place is stunning in its cuteness.  Beautiful flowers and plants surround the store and even as you enter a wonderful window box sits inside.  The walls are covered with fun stuff to look at as you wait in line, and the building is very open and sunny.

We bevied up to the front of the line and made our selection.  Tess got the coffee Oreo, I sampled the black raspberry.  The first shocking thing we discovered was that a small cost $4.00!  Tess and I are not what you would call wealthy, but we can usually afford a little ice cream, but wow 4 bucks has got to be the highest price we have paid yet for a small.  It’s not like your taking home a pint or two either these are normal small sizes.  I guess people were right when they said that everything costs more in Chatham.

The ice cream was delicious, creamy smooth with no hints of ice.  Plenty of tasty mix-ins that tasted fresh and were not soggy or frozen (Oreo chunks and raspberry pieces).  You can tell that its homemade and that should count for something.  The wonderful atmosphere also adds some sort of unknown x-factor helping your brain relax to further enjoy the taste.

You have to love a good homemade scoop, but damn that price tag did nothing to help the flavors blossom on my tongue.  We also found that the servers while nice were hardly enthusiastic.  They did there job quickly but without flair.  Nothing wrong with fast service, but its nice to get a smile or a howdy once and a while.  This of course is most likely because of the never ending stream of non-professional ice cream testers (unlike ourselves :) ) streaming into the store.

Buffy’s serves a mean scoop, and if you are independently wealthy (or not trying to feed a family of more than two) stop by and get some of this tasty ice cream.  You will love the shop and check out the sweet whale carved into the building next door.
